Experience Dental Innovation with Laser Gum Therapy
The dental field is always advancing as new techniques, technologies and treatments are developed. At Affiliated Periodontists of North Jersey, we pride ourselves on staying up-to-date with the latest in the dental field. One of the most progressive advances was the development and implementation of laser dentistry, which provides patients with a minimally invasive and gentle treatment to many soft tissue procedures. We have invested in the state-of-the-art BIOLASE® WaterLase® Express dental laser for its innovative approach to many periodontal treatments.

Gum Disease Therapy
Gum (periodontal) disease is a progressive infection that, left untreated, can cause eventual tooth loss. We utilize the laser REPAIR Perio™ protocol to gently remove infected gum tissue, promote jaw bone regrowth and speed up the healing timeframe. Laser gum disease therapy does not involve scalpels, sutures, and has minimal bleeding and pain when compared to traditional treatment.
-
Peri-Implantitis Treatment
Similar to gum disease, peri-implantitis is an infection of the gum tissue surrounding a dental implant. We can use laser gum therapy through the REPAIR Implant™ protocol to treat infection around implant posts and reduce the risk of implant failure. Laser gum therapy is minimally invasive and requires no scalpels or sutures.
-
Frenectomy
A frenectomy is the removal of a thin piece of tissue that holds the lip or tongue in place. We are able to use our laser to gently severe this restrictive tissue and free the lip or tongue for proper movement. When using a laser, the process can be performed in several minutes, with minimal discomfort and no need for sutures.
-
Pigment Removal
If you have dark pigmentation on your gums that make you self-conscious, laser gum therapy can gently remove the discoloration. This pigment discoloration is generally due to melanin deposits in the gums, which can be removed using laser light. The process is quick and there is no lengthy recovery period.
-
Lip Repositioning
For those with a gummy smile, we can reposition your upper lip to cover more gum tissue and give you a more even smile. We use our laser to separate the tissue that holds the lip in place and gently suture it in a new location lower down on the gums. This will prevent you from showing excessive gum tissue when you smile.
A Gentler Option
Many patients choose laser dentistry because of the gentle manner in which treatment is performed. In the hands of our skilled periodontists, laser light is able to destroy disease without harming healthy tissue and it can also be used to treat discoloration and perform gentle incisions with minimal bleeding. Most patients can go back to their normal routine immediately after laser gum therapy.
Minimally Invasive, Effective Treatment. Every Time.
Our practice philosophy is to provide every patient with a treatment plan designed for long term results with minimally invasive procedures. Laser dentistry helps us achieve this goal by offering short healing timeframes and virtually no pain or bleeding during treatment. We strive to educate our patients about the risks, benefits and alternatives to every treatment. Most patients choose laser dentistry when it is presented as an option and enjoy the gentle, quick nature of therapy.
